Zero Tolerance Against All Speed Cameras

According to a report, a group calling itself MAD -- or Motorists Against Detection -- have taken to setting autonomous traffic cameras ablaze across the United Kingdom, and are detailing their exploits on a website (of course). The group's "PR" claims they have been active since 2000, and have destroyed over 1000 roadside cameras. Says the group's leader, Capt. Gatso, "The vigilante anti-speed camera group have announced a summer of MADness which will see them target for destruction all speed cameras in the UK. It's now going to be a period of zero tolerance against all speed cameras." The gang of disgruntled drivers also plans a day of action called "National Cover-Up Your Number Plates Day." Guy Fawkes would be proud.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Update, New cars and GT Live TV

So I turned on the PS3 and loaded the J GT5 demo. I was welcomed with the unveiling of the new Skyline GTR and Subaru WRX STI. Also in addition to the Super GT, D1 Grand Prix and Best Motoring videos on GT Live TV there is now Lancer Evolution X coverage and coverage of the Tokyo Motor Show.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo Gameplay

This is my actual gameplay fighting my way to a 1st place finish in a 16 car race with the Alpine White BMW 135i Coupe on the freshly released Japanese version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Here you can see high quality footage of the fully functioning interior (in car view), the garage before the race, and the footage after the race. Sparco race gloves, Arai Race Helmet, BMW race suit. Everything is authentic. Great stuff for a tuner like me! I've been waiting to see this level of detail.

Put your PS3 to work! Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo Tomorrow

I'm in class right now, wishing I was at home playing the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo. It will be available tomorrow for the Japanese, but you can get it by setting up a Japanese account on your PS3.

Japan is getting a free taste of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue tomorrow. A demo version of Prologue will be available on the Japanese PSN until November 11th. (The full version of Prologue will retail for about $43.) Included in the demo are seven playable cars:
Lexus IS-F
Nissan GT-R
Mazda Atenza
Subaru Impreza WRX STI
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR
Daihatsu OFC-1
BMW 135i Coupe
Also, in coordination with the Tokyo Motor Show, new cars will be unveiled in the game from October 23rd to the 25th. However, there will only be one track featured in the demo: Suzuka. No online play will be included with the demo, but single player will have you competing against 15 other racers, making for a less solitary experience than last year's Gran Turismo HD.

* Same “ticket-based” gameplay style as before
* Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle East
* Squads and Commanders are present, introduced are “Battalions” which consist of three to four squads.
* Five playable classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support
* Will feature 48 different vehicles (24 for each faction)
* Will feature 34 different weapons (17 for each faction) and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
* Other unlocks include different types of ammunition, body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.
* Possible public beta in “Summer 2008″
* Online stats tracking, awards and “real world ranks”
* “Soldier” feature, looks like MMO-styled characters and avatars
* Ranked servers will be available for resellers weeks before the game ships (for testing, apparently, ed.)

A map is mentioned by name, called “Baghdad Burning”, and appears to be a massive urban map, similar to BF2’s very popular “Strike at Karkand”. The game is powered by “Frotbite DX”, currently the Frostbite engine is used in Battlefiled: Bad Company on PS3 and Xbox 360. The “DX” could refer to DirectX (10?), a PC version of the Frostbite engine.

Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer BETA

I got access to it and have been playing it on my xbox for a couple of days. This totally rocks, but it does have some bugs in it. Issues are mostly with the party system and connecting to games. More of a BETA than Halo 3 was. :) Here is a video of my friend, David, playing for a short time:

What Toyota means in Japanese.

The name of the new company was changed from Toyoda to Toyota - one you will probably hear if you go on one of the plant tours. The name "Toyota" for the company instead of the family name "Toyoda" for several reasons. First, Kiichiro Toyoda wanted to make a distinction between his family (private life) and his company (public life). In Japan, people count the number of strokes it takes to write kanji, hiragana or katakana. In katakana, it takes 10 strokes to write "Toyoda" and 8 strikes to write "Toyota". In Japanese, eight is a good number because the kanji used to write eight also has the meaning of "infinity". By using the name "Toyota", he was expressing his hope for "unlimited" possibilities for his new company.
